About the Book
In Punished for Dreaming, Dr. Bettina Love examines four decades of education reform and asks how policies related to school funding, accountability, policing, and school closures have shaped the lives of children and communities across the United States. Through historical research and personal stories, she explores how reform efforts have affected educational opportunity, discipline, and long-term outcomes for students—especially students of color. The book also looks forward, presenting ideas for repair and investment aimed at creating more equitable schools for all children.
